Title: Interpreting implied risk-neutral densities
Title (other): the role of risk premia
Abstract
This paper examine differences between risk-neutral and objective probability densities of future interest rates. The identification and quantification of these differences are important when risk-neutral densities (RNDs), such as option-implied RNDs, are used as indicators of actual beliefs of investors. We employ a multi-factor essentially affine modeling framework apllied to German time-series and cross-section term structure data in order to identify both the risk-neutral and the objective term structure dynamics. We find important differences beetween risk-neutral and objective distributions due to risk premia in bond prices. Moreover, the estimated premia vary over time in a quantitatively significant way, which implies that the differences between the objective and the risk neutral distributions also vary over time. We conclude that one should be cautions in interpreting RNDs as representing the true expectations of market participants. The method used in this paper provides an alternative approach to identifying objective probabilities of future interest rates. [Peter Hördahl ; David Vestin]

Title: The knowledge society in Germany : Current situation and future trends
Abstract
In the context of its four-year work programme, Analysing and Anticipating Change to Support Socio-Economic Progress 2001-2004, the Foundation launched a project on 'European Knowledge Society (KS) foresights for living conditions, working conditions and industrial relations'. The purpose of this project is to increase understanding of the 'drivers' of a KS and to anticipate their potential impacts on living conditions, working conditions and industrial relations. EUFORIA has been set up as a project to chart the development of the KS in different EU member states using different means and methodologies. This report deals with the situation in Germany. [W. B. Title: Option-implied asymmetries in bond market expectations around monetary policy actions of the ECB
Abstract
This paper uses data on German government bond futures options to examine the behaviour of market expectations around monetary policy actions of the European Central Bank (ECB). In particular, this paper focuses on the asymmetries in bond market expectations, as measured by the skewness of option-implied probability distributions of future bond yields. The results show that market expectations are systematically asymmetric around monetary policy actions of the ECB. Around monetary policy tightening, option-implied yield distributions are positively skewed, indicating that market participants attach higher probabilities for sharp yield increases than for sharp decreases. Correspondingly, around loosening of the policy, implied yield distributions are negatively skewed, suggesting that markets assign higher probabilities for sharp yield decreases than for increases. Furthermore, the results indicate that market expectations are significantly altered around monetary policy actions, as asymmetries in market expectations tend to increase before changes in the monetary policy stance, and to decrease afterwards. Title: Regional socio-economic studies on employment and the level of dependency on fishing : lot No.23 coordination and
consolidation study / final report
Abstract
One of the principal benefits of fisheries is the socio-economic impact on jobs and incomes, not just in fishing, but also in up- and down stream activities. The fishery sector is subject to competitive pressures which impact on labour, as do regulatory requirements and resource and capacity management measures. In the European Union, as elsewhere, fisheries-related employment frequently falls in areas which have few other alternative economic activities and these impacts can have a disproportionately negative effect on living conditions. Present policy within the European Union is to compensate for these negative effects, and to provide support for alternative employment through investments in job creation and training programmes. It is vital that the areas whose local economies are the most dependent upon the fishery sector are identified in order that efforts to reduce the negative impact of the fleet reductions can be targeted effectively.
Abstract

Title: Frauen in "einfachen" Tätigkeiten : Abschlussbericht ; Angebots-Nr. IP/C/FEMM/IC/2006-162
Title (other): Women in low-skill work
Abstract
Title: The impact of the new financial services framework : Main report, country reports (part I-III)
Abstract
This study has considered the impact that the Financial Services Action Plan and the legislative measures of the Financial Services White Paper have already had and should be expected to have in the future. These impacts are considered for the European Union as a whole and for each of the twenty-five individual Member States. This study has been conducted at an early stage, with a number of important FSAP measures not yet implemented and most of the measures proposed in the White Paper still requiring further detailed consideration. This offers the considerable advantage there is yet time to influence the process and future developments, but also the challenge in assessment that many effects are not yet clear. Thus, central to our conclusions have necessarily been many expert judgements.... [Europe Economics, London]

Title: Women on the Labour Market : Specific weaknesses in eight countries representative of the European Union
Abstract
This report sets out a detailed analysis of the specific weaknesses typical of women's working lives in Europe. In order to give an overview of the situation in all 27 EU Member States, eight countries have been selected in the light of the conclusions reached by the comparative literature on welfare states and their socio-economic characteristics. Each country is deemed to represent a form of societal organisation and a labour market system which typifies a subset of Member States. The eight countries examined are Germany, Sweden, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland and Hungary. The position of women on the labour market in these eight countries is analysed from both a quantitative and a qualitative point of view based on a battery of indicators.
