Title: Innovative recruitment strategies in the fisheries sector : Denmark
Abstract
Denmark is one of the top 20 fishing nations of the world according to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). Employment in fisheries in Denmark was remarkably constant through most of the 20th century; in 1913 there were estimated to be 12,000 fishermen, and in 1982 11,000. However, from the early 1980s on, the sector was in crisis as a consequence of overexploitation, declining stocks and overcapacity. An ongoing decline in the fleet size, encouraged by the government and the EU via grants for decommissioning, lead to employment levels in 2001 of around 2,000 registered full-time fishermen according to Danish government statistics. Title: Survey highlights rise in psychosocial demands at work - Denmark
Abstract
The National Research Centre for the Working Environment, formerly the National Institute of Occupational Health, has conducted the fourth Danish Work Environment Cohort Study (DWECS) covering the five-year period 2000-2005. The 2005 results indicate no clear trend of overall better or worse conditions for workers. Nevertheless, an increase in psychosocial demands at the workplace has been identified, such as a high pace of work, a demanding workload and emotional demands. Conversely, the study also reveals increases in decision latitude, better future prospects in the job and more support for workers from superiors. However, considerable differences among workers persist in relation to jobs, sectors and gender. [Author vide Copyright]

Padborg is located in Jutland in southern Denmark at the border with Germany. It is one of the largest transport hubs in Denmark, both in terms of volume and value. About 200 transport companies and service-related enterprises occupy a 5km2 area in Padborg beside the European motorway E45 ? the main traffic corridor between the Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden) and the rest of Europe. Title: Diversity policy in employment and service provision - Case study : Copenhagen, Denmark
Abstract
Denmark is a welfare state in a rather pronounced form. It has inclusive policies, not only for its citizens but also for all legal residents. Equality and equal treatment are keywords in the political discourse. The city of Copenhagen follows the national model to a great extent, but also deviates from the national model in framing the integration process as a mutual process and naming diversity as a potential asset, by stressing less the mandatory nature of measures and more the engagement of various actors in society. Diversity as personnel policy has a longer history in Copenhagen, going back at least to 1998. It has always been broadly defined, including diversity of gender, ethnicity, disability and sexual orientation. The major focus seems to lie in recruitment, which corroborates the main political motivation, namely that the work force of the city should reflect its demographic composition.[Eurofound]

Title: Intercultural policies and intergroup relations - Case study : Copenhagen, Denmark
Abstract
Urban populations have become increasingly heterogeneous in ethnic, cultural and religious terms. These multi-ethnic, multicultural and multi-religious structures challenge the ability of municipalities to establish or maintain peaceful relations among the different segments of the population. The third module of the CLIP project focuses on the relations between different groups in the city, as well as local policies established to deal with these relations, and the way in which representatives of migrant associations, religious communities and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) assess the local activities. This case study was carried out in Copenhagen, Denmark.[Eurofound]

Title: Danske Bank (Denmark)
Abstract
This case study demonstrates how Danske Bank, one of the largest banks in northern Europe, has dealt with the impact of the financial crisis. It also shows how it has coped with longer term restructuring requirements arising from rapid expansion and internationalisation of the bank, the integration of IT systems and the relatively high employment density in the sector in Denmark. As well as presenting the approach to restructuring at national level in Denmark, this case study looks at the role played by the company’s relatively new European Works Council in the discussions. Title: Abused Domestic Workers in Europe : The Case of Au Pairs
Abstract
This study analyses au pair arrangements in six EU Member States (Denmark, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain) through descriptions of national and international legal frameworks and practices of au pairing. The findings show different patterns of au pair migration and different situations of au pairing as well as different strategies to protect the au pairs. The overall recommendation is to separate current au pair immigration into two programmes: one of cultural exchange and one of domestic and care work. [European Parliament]

Title: Active inclusion of young people with disabilities or health problems : National report - Denmark
Abstract
Denmark is a welfare society. The current aspiration of Danish disability policy is equal treatment for all, regardless of physical or mental capacity. This objective is the result of an evolutionary process, the effect of which is that people with disabilities are increasingly integrated into society and into the open labour market. In Denmark, labour market policy is targeted at integration and retention. Based on the principle of compensation, society offers people with disabilities a range of services in order to limit the consequences of impairment as much as possible and also to provide disabled people, as far possible, with equal opportunities on the open labour market. The social system therefore offers a combination of income protection and employment activation. [Lena Steen]

Title: Ethnic entrepreneurship - Case study : Copenhagen, Denmark
Abstract
In 2006, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, the city of Stuttgart and Eurofound formed the ‘European network of cities for local integration policies' (CLIP). This fourth and final module of the CLIP project looks at ethnic entrepreneurship. The general aim of this module is to explore the development of ethnic entrepreneurship and to review the role of policy interventions in that process. It is motivated by the desire of municipal, national and European governments as well as third sector institutions, who want to create an environment that is conducive to setting up and developing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in general and ethnic businesses in particular. This case study was carried out in Copenhagen. [Eurofound]

Title: Work organisation and innovation - Case study : Radiometer, Denmark
Abstract
Radiometer is a multinational company that produces medico-technical products and services for hospitals. The company’s vision is to build a team and a reputation for Radiometer’s products and services that result in extraordinary loyalty from associates, customers and, not least, shareholders. The innovation described in this case study – the introduction of the DBS/Lean strategy – is critical to achieving these business goals. The Danaher Business System (DBS) is based on the principles and tools developed within the Lean system and philosophy. DBS tools are 80% Lean. The underpinning principles of the Lean system are to eliminate waste in all its aspects, including waste materials, time wasted, too much stock or inventory, wasted efforts, etc., and to produce up to an agreed quality and productivity level defined by the management at minimum cost. Minimum cost means maximising the use of limited resources (staff, time, space, materials, and money).[Steen Høyrup, Kirsten Møller]
