Title: WTO negotiations in the field of agriculture : Negotiation strategies
Title (other): Les négociations OMC dans le domaine de l'agriculture : Stratégies de négociations
Abstract
Multilateral trade negotiations limited to agriculture started again in March 2000. Set out in Article 20 of the Agreement on Agriculture, they are among the WTOs built-in agenda commitments which Member countries entered into when signing the Final Act Embodying the Results of the Uruguay Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations in Marrakech on 15 April 1994. By the end of the first phase of the negotiations, which continued to March 2001, 45 proposals and three technical submissions had been lodged. They address the main trade and non-trade concerns raised by the multilateral liberalisation of agricultural trade for which the WTO Agreement on Agriculture provides a framework.... Title: Arbeitsweise und Beaufsichtigung der internationalen Finanzinstitutionen
Title (other): The Functioning and Supervision of International Financial Institutions | Fonctionnement et contrôle des
établissements financiers internationaux
Abstract
The recent financial crises in Asia, Russia and Latin America have focussed attention on the effectiveness of the world's 'financial architecture'. The freeing of capital movements and the globalisation of markets have boosted economic growth; but also increased instability and systemic risk. This study examines in detail the workings of the system, and the problems it faces. It looks particularly at risk-management techniques, the difficulties of effective prudential supervision, the situation in developing countries, and the impact of hedge funds and other new financial instruments. It also examines the role of money laundering and other criminal activities. Finally, it makes a number of proposals for reform, both at the international and EU level. [European Parliament]

Title: EU national economic and social councils and similar institutions
Title (other): Conseils économiques et sociaux nationaux de l'UE et institutions similaires
Abstract
Inspired by a European spirit, the EU's national economic and social councils and the EESC worked together tirelessly to create a European network of economic and social councils. Thanks to the commitment of the presidents and members of all the councils, the network has helped forge systematic and structured cooperation on topics of practical relevance in EU policy. Today, the EU's network of economic and social councils and similar institutions is a recognised institutional set-up which is consulted and listened to by the main EU institutions.(...)The present publication is an integral part of a larger comparative study on EU Member States consultations with civil society on European policy matters. Following a call for tenders launched by the EESC, the European Union Democracy Observatory at the European University Institute in Florence was commissioned to carry out the study under the direction of Didier Chabanet and Professor Alexander H. Trechsel.[Author vide Copyright]

Combat Desertification (UNCCD)
Abstract
This review, commissioned by the European Commission DG-Development, Brussels, presents a brief analysis of the national implementation reports submitted by Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. These countries span two CCD regions as Turkey is considered as part of the Northern Mediterranean while the other countries are considered as part of the Asian region. Regional annexes to the Convention have been developed by relevant Parties detailing the particular conditions and priority concerns of each region.
