Title: Out-of-school care for children living in disadvantaged areas - Belgium
Abstract
In both the French and Flemish communities of Belgium, out-of-school care forms part of a general policy geared towards all school-age children, and is backed up by assisted accessibility measures, mainly regarding the financial contributions from parents. However, checks still have to be carried out to establish whether access really is available in all zones, deprived or otherwise. [Author vide Copyright]

Title: Employment developments in childcare services for school-age children
Abstract
Childcare is a topic of much debate in the enlarged EU due to demographic changes and an ageing population. Against this background, the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions initiated research into the EU childcare sector, focusing on out-of-school care for children of mandatory school age (five to 12 years). The research aims to fuel the current debate on modernising childcare systems across the EU, and to encourage policymakers to review existing childcare information, pinpoint gaps in services and identify support measures to develop childcare jobs.[Author vide Copyright]

Title: Out-of-school care for children living in disadvantaged areas - United Kingdom
Abstract
In the United Kingdom, out-of-school care provision has expanded to meet increased demand. It is largely a success story demonstrating that a broad societal agreement about the need for, and value of, out-of-school care can be translated into a widespread reality in a relatively short period of time. Title: Out-of-school care for children living in disadvantaged areas - Portugal
Abstract
In Portugal, the growth of out-of-school care in disadvantaged areas has taken place along two main lines: the development of compulsory out-of-school care services in primary schools and the development, since the mid-eighties, of publicly-subsidised NGOs working - and projects put in place - in disadvantaged areas. There has been some development of out-of-school care services at the council level as well. In spite of these developments, there is still insufficient coverage of out-of-school care services for children and young people in disadvantaged areas. [Author vide Copyright]

Title: Social work sector : working conditions and job quality
Abstract
This report gives an overview of working conditions, job quality, workers’ health and job sustainability in the social work sector (NACE 88). It is based mostly on the fifth European Working Conditions Survey (EWCS), which gathers data on working conditions and the quality of work across 34 European countries. Additional information on the structural characteristics of the sector is derived from Eurostat data. The sector contains all social work activities for the elderly and the disabled, child day-care activities, and all other social work activities that do not involve accommodation. The fifth EWCS contains responses from 875 workers in this sector. The report compares aspects of work in the sector with the EU28 as a whole.[Author vide Copyright]
