Title: Effects on the fisheries industry of the Commission proposals (SANCO) on dioxin content of fish, fish oil and fish meal
as part of animal feed regulations
Abstract
Recently some fish and fish products of European origin have been identified as major contributors to the dioxin contamination of feed materials finally occurring in the human food chain and according to the Scientific Committee on Animal Nutrition emphasis should be put on reducing the impact of the most contaminated feed materials such as fish oil or fish meal from Europe on overall diet contamination. Therefore the European Commission wants to set maximum limits for feed, including fish and fish products by amending Directive 1999/29/EC and to establish action and target limits in Commission Recommendation to be adopted concurrently. Title: European Works Councils case studies: Südzucker
Abstract
In September 1994, the Council of Ministers decided on a Directive on the establishment of a European Works Council for the purposes of informing and consulting employees (94/45/EC). The emergence of European Works Councils (EWCs) is a major part of the development of an industrial relations system at European level. The agreement was achieved in 1996 based on Article 13 of the EWC Directive. It was signed by Südzucker and the company works councils, and by a trade union representative on behalf of the EAL/IUL. Abstract
In September 1994, the Council of Ministers decided on a Directive on the establishment of a European Works Council (EWC) for the purposes of informing and consulting employees (94/45/EC). The emergence of EWCs is a major part of the development of an industrial relations system at European level. On 18 December 2000, the agreement for the establishment of the Italian Food Group EWC was underwritten at the head office of the parent company. Title: EWCs in the new Member States : Case study: Unilever
Abstract
Unilever was formally created in 1930 with the merger of British soapmakers ?Lever Brothers? and Dutch margarine producers ?Margarine Unie?. Today, this Anglo-Dutch company owns many of the world?s best-known consumer brands in food, beverages, cleaning and personal care products. This case study is based on interviews carried out in the first half of 2006 in Germany, Slovakia (also covering the Czech Republic) and Poland with Unilever EWC members and management representatives (responsible for HR). In addition, an interview with a representative of the Unilever EWC Secretariat was carried out. The Unilever EWC was established in 1996 and is based on Dutch law.[Author vide Copyright]

Title: Trends and drivers of change in the food and beverage industry in Europe: Mapping report
Abstract
Increased competition, food scares and new consumer trends are among the key challenges facing the food and beverage industry in Europe. While these challenges pose a threat to some companies they can be an expansion opportunity for others. In response to these new challenges, food companies are improving competitiveness by restructuring, and intensifying the fight for market share through product differentiation and/or the development of new food products. This mapping report is part of a study of the food industry that also features four case studies, two cluster studies and four scenarios.
