Title: World Investment Report 2004
Title (other): The Shift Towards services
Abstract
Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into Central and Eastern Europe declined from a record $31 billion in 2002 to a low of $21 billion last year, the result of the end of privatisation in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, according to the World Investment Report 2004: The Shift Towards Services. Despite the decline in 2003, the report predicts that the medium-term prospects for further FDI growth in Central and Eastern Europe are good. In all, FDI inflows last year rose in 10 of the region's countries and fell in nine, with most countries receiving less than $1 billion. Inward FDI flows as a percentage of gross fixed capital formation in Central and Eastern Europe declined from 17% in 2002 to 10% in 2003. The region´s modest performance last year suggests that no large-scale diversion of FDI from the older European Union members to the Central and Eastern European countries has occurred. Greenfield projects, spread over a longer period and generally smaller in size, could not immediately compensate for the fall in privatisation-related FDI in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, despite the fact that both countries had been selected as locations for new automobile plants by transnational corporations. In particular, thanks to FDI in large assembly projects, Slovakia is on its way to becoming a major European hub for automobile production. Aside from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the decline in FDI inflows was small, from $19 billion in 2002 to $18 billion in 2003. The ups and downs of FDI among the Central and Eastern European countries in 2003 re-established Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary as the three top locations for inward FDI in the region. Far from diverting FDI flows from the old members of the EU, the group of eight Central and Eastern European countries that joined the EU in May 2004 saw their combined FDI inflows shrink from $23 billion in 2002 to $11 billion in 2003. Economic growth is expected to drive FDI growth in Central and Eastern Europe. Flows to EU accession countries are likel

Title: European Works Councils case studies: Volkswagen
Abstract
In September 1994, the Council of Ministers decided on a Directive on the establishment of a European Works Council for the purposes of informing and consulting employees (94/45/EC). The emergence of European Works Councils (EWCs) is a major part of the development of an industrial relations system at European level. The EWC agreement at Volkswagen was concluded in 1992, before the Directive on European Works Councils came into force. This agreement had been revised in light of restructurings and acquisitions of the group. [Author vide Copyright]

Title: European Works Councils case studies: The DaimlerChrysler Group
Abstract
In September 1994, the Council of Ministers decided on a Directive on the establishment of a European Works Council for the purposes of informing and consulting employees (94/45/EC). The emergence of European Works Councils (EWCs) is a major part of the development of an industrial relations system at European level. After a European Works Council (EWC) was established in 1996, the European distribution committee (europäischer Vertriebsarbeitskreis) was integrated, as it were, as an EWC committee. The corresponding agreement was concluded between the German works council and group management in July 1996. [Author vide Copyright]

Title: Alternative automotive fuels - supply, technological and environmental scenarios to 2030
Abstract
The consumption of energy and the direction of its further development has always depended on the choices made by consumers, producers, governments and societies. The selection was made according to the criteria costs, quality, reliability, security, convenience and social impacts. Governments have a key role in establishing the framework within which this can take place. The broad pattern of different fuels and propulsion technologies which currently exists will persist also in the future. However, not all technological options will have relevant shares in the market, some will exist in niche applications only. These niches can be technological niches which are widely spread over the world (such as current battery-powered electrical propulsion), or specific regional niches relevant to the specific characteristics of a region (as can currently be found on some islands). In future as in the present, the major role in transport will be played by a relatively small number of fuels and technologies. This study will focus on these fuels and technologies, it touches only very briefly or does not explicitly mention other existing, but not as relevant fuels and technologies. [European Parliament]

Title: Managing cyclical change in the European shipbuilding and ship repair industries
Abstract
The European Monitoring Centre on Change (EMCC) of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, in cooperation with the European Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee of the Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Industries, commissioned a research project investigating the management of cyclical changes in the shipbuilding and ship repair industries in ten EU countries. The explicit objective of this research project was to provide the social partners with a point of reference for the handling of cyclical changes by compiling a comprehensive ?tool box? of different measures and best practices that have been applied in the ten countries investigated.[Author vide Copyright]

Title: Type approval requirements for the general safety of motor vehicles (IP/A/IMCO/IC/2008 -112)
Abstract
The present report has studied Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS), as well as Tyre Low Rolling Resistance (TLRR) and Tyre Wet Grip (TWG) requirements analyzing the financial implication for manufacturers, repercussions on consumer retail prices, expected road benefits (including casualty reductions as well as healthcare savings) and environmental benefits (reductions in fuel consumption and noise emissions). [...] The objective of this study is to carry out a short, concise and easily accessible analysis on the proposal for a Regulation concerning type approval requirements for the general safety of motor vehicles COM(2008)316 2007/0243(COD). Title: Technological Synergies between the Automotive and the Aeronautics Sector and their Supply Chains
Abstract
The aeronautics and the automotive sector play a crucial role in maintaining Europes industrial and technological base and its strong hold on the international market. These sectors also face similar challenges. Those challenges relate to rapid technological change, globalization and fighting climate change. The present study aims to identify the most promising technological synergies based on the available literature and explore the benefits of fostering those synergies and the R&D cooperation between the automotive and aeronautics sector.
