Title: Finnish Working Life Barometer 2005
Abstract
Considerable differences exist between the working conditions of various sectors in Finland, with employees in the local government sector reporting particularly unfavourable working conditions. According to results from the Working Life Barometer 2005, employees in this sector find their work mentally and physically demanding, and experiences of violence at work are common. Nevertheless, measures to improve the quality of working life and productivity are being implemented in the majority of Finnish workplaces, and at least half of the employees have participated in training paid for by their employer in the past 12 months. Title: Quality of Life and Working Conditions Survey, Bulgaria (survey report)
Abstract
Fieldwork for a nationwide representative survey in Bulgaria was completed in June 2005. The survey findings indicate that working conditions are improving, with a number of indicators - from overall fatigue to the proportion of fixed-term contracts - revealing a better quality of work. However, some factors were found to have deteriorated since 2001. Nonetheless, three out of four Bulgarian workers report that they are satisfied with their jobs. [Rumiana Gladicheva]

Title: Quality of life in the Spanish workplace, 2003
Abstract
The survey on quality of life in the workplace (in Spanish; Encuesta de Calidad de Vida en el Trabajo 2003) is carried out annually by the Spanish Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. This is a summary of the 2003 results. Main findings are that: in general, Spanish workers are satisfied at work; most of them approve of their safety conditions; feel positive about relations with their colleagues; and stress levels seem to have gone down. However, the gender gap remains particularly acute when it comes to types of contracts, working hours, carrying out household chores, and taking care of children and the elderly. Title: Quality of life in the Spanish workplace (report)
Abstract
Spanish workers' reported satisfaction with their work has been steadily increasing since 1999, according to the 2004 Spanish survey on quality of life in the workplace. Workers declare their satisfaction with health and safety conditions at work, work organisation and relationships with colleagues, while pay and participation issues are less satisfying. The survey also reveals that considerable differences remain between the sexes in carrying out household chores and in caring activities with children and older people. [Antonio Corral]

Title: New work organisation, working conditions and quality of work: towards the flexible firm?
Abstract
In order to remain competitive, the European Union Member States have to adopt new work organisations which are innovative and create a high quality of work. What impact have the new forms of work organisation had on workers and companies? Has it led to greater control over work and more flexibility? Or has it resulted in increased pressure and loss of control? This report focuses on the relationship between new forms of work and working conditions and the impact on the quality of work. It looks in particular at the effects on workers' physical and mental health, safety, working time, lifelong learning, job security, job satisfaction and job control. It concludes that satisfaction with working life in Europe is determined by factors such as the pattern and duration of working time, the pace of work, job content and job autonomy. The literature used for the report is drawn from a variety of sources, including Foundation studies. [Herausgeber]

Abstract
This analytical report addresses the important question concerning the extent to which quality of work influences people?s overall quality of life. More specifically, the report undertakes a detailed analysis of how working conditions, job satisfaction and work?life balance affect life satisfaction. Central to this analysis is describing how the characteristics of the work situation affect people?s subjective life satisfaction. Title: Teamwork and high performance work organisation
Abstract
This report provides a comparative overview of teamwork, based on the European Working Conditions Surveys and 16 national contributions to a questionnaire. It considers how teamwork has developed as a new form of work organisation and takes into account the context at national and company level. The study assesses the positive and negative influence of teamwork on diverse aspects of working conditions, such as job autonomy, job satisfaction, work intensity, productivity and the learning environment. It also investigates the prevalence of teamwork according to various factors including sex, sector and occupation. The national contributions from the following 16 countries are available: Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.[Author vide Copyright]

Title: Working conditions in Romania
Abstract
More than 50% of Romanian workers complain that their working conditions involve potential hazards to their health and safety, while 27% of workers have irregular working hours. Fixed-term employment contracts are not common in Romania, and more women than men hold indefinite employment contracts. Meanwhile, job satisfaction has declined in recent years. These are among the findings of the working conditions section of the 2004 survey on living conditions in Romania. Title: Second Quality of Work Survey reveals decline in working conditions
Abstract
The preliminary results of the second Quality of Work in Italy Survey, carried out in 2006 by the National Training Agency, show that working conditions have tended to decline since the 2002 survey, although overall job satisfaction is still high. Italian workers seem to be less satisfied with their job autonomy, pay, job security and career opportunities. Title: Occupational Health Concerns : Stress-Related and Psychological Problems Associated with Work
Abstract
The study presents recent trends on stress at work as well as an overview of EU and national measures to tackle this problem, especially in the context of the economic and financial crisis. The report also includes a number of case studies illustrating initiatives that have proven successful in improving workers’ mental well-being, in particular during restructuring. Given the growing concerns on the impact of the economic and financial crisis on workers’ mental health, one of the main recommendations put forward in the study is that the next Strategy, or any other relevant European framework on occupational health and safety, should include stress at work as a priority area.
