Abstract

Title: Water resources across Europe — confronting water scarcity and drought
Abstract
Despite the vast amount of water on the planet, decades of unsustainable management mean that water shortages have reached crisis point in many regions. Globally, humans appropriate more than 50 % of all renewable and accessible freshwater, while billions still lack the most basic water services (Pacific, 2009). Until now, most Europeans have been insulated from the social, economic and environmental impacts of severe water shortages. But as demand increases and the global climate changes, is Europe becoming more susceptible? [Author vide copyright]

Herausforderung veränderter Wasserressourcen. Zusammenfassung | Changement climatique regional et adaptation. Les Alpes
face au changement des ressources en eau. Résumé
Abstract
The present report contains six case studies that illustrate regional adaptation to key water resource issues resulting from climate change and other causes such as increased water use. In addition to detailed literature analysis for each region, the case studies included interviews with stakeholders who were directly involved in adaptation activities or had knowledge about them. The case studies addressed the Lavant valley and Vienna in Austria, the Valais in Switzerland, South Tyrol in Italy, the Savoy region in France and River So?a in Slovenia and Italy.[Author vide copyright] | Dieser Bericht umfasst sechs Fallstudien, die die regionale Anpassung an grundlegende Wasserressourcenprobleme veranschaulichen, welche sich aus dem Klimawandel und anderen Ursachen wie z.

Title: Qualität der Badegewässer : Badesaison 2009
Title (other): Quality of bathing water : 2009 bathing season | Qualité des eaux de baignade : Saison balnéaire 2009
Abstract

Title: An exhaustive analysis of employment trends in all sectors related to sea or using sea resources / Main report
Title (other): Final report for the European Commission, DG Fisheries and Maritime Affairs | [Umschlagtitel] Employment trends in all
sectors related to sea or using sea resources
Abstract
The development of maritime policy requires a number of key issues to be addressed, including an understanding of the employment impact and trends of activities related to thesea or using sea resources. For example, in the past the economic and employmentimpact of activities related to the sea have been underestimated because of the rathernarrow definition of the maritime cluster (including mainly activities related to shipping, ports and shipbuilding). The maritime cluster concept has not traditionally comprisedactivities such as coastal tourism, cruise tourism, offshore and coastal wind energy – all ofwhich are strong growth sectors in Europe. Furthermore, an effective implementation ofEuropean policies in the maritime field requires an assessment of the policies aimed atboosting sea related employment. (Autor s.Copyright)

Title: Study on the economic effects of maritime spatial planning / final report
Abstract
In the case of Maritime Spatial Planning, the European Commission aims to support its Member States with a tool that enables their maritime economies to grow sustainably. This implies minimum conflicts between economic activities AND other economic or human activities, whilst a good environmental status of the marine areas is realised. The question to be answered in this study is whether Maritime Spatial Planning leads to these desired effects. More specifically, it aims to find out whether and on which scale economic effects for maritime stakeholders in the European Union will occur due to Maritime Spatial Planning. In order to answer this question, Maritime Spatial Planning has first been conceptualised, addressing items such as the input and process needed to achieve Maritime Spatial Planning as well as the effects likely to result. It was found that if the process is managed properly the economic effects are fourfold: (1) enhanced coordination and simplified decision processes, (2) enhanced legal certainty for all stakeholders in the maritime arena, (3) enhanced cross border cooperation and (4) enhanced coherence with other planning systems.

Title: Study on the economic effects of maritime spatial planning / case studies
Abstract
The first case study has a national scope and involves a wide variety of the maritime activities identified in the main report. The second case study is concentrated around one specific activity/subject and has a transnational scope. The first case study concerns the economic benefits of MSP in Portugal. .... The second case study concerns the development of a transnational electricity grid between Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK. The development of this grid has significant benefits.

Title: Qualität der europäischen Badegewässer 2010
Title (other): European bathing water quality in 2010 | Qualité des eaux de baignade européennes en 2010
Abstract

Title: Hazardous substances in Europe's fresh and marine waters
Title (other): An overview
Abstract
Chemicals are an essential part of our daily lives and are used to produce consumer goods, to protect or restore our health and to boost food production, to name but a few examples. Some chemicals, however, are hazardous, raising concerns for the environment and human health. Hazardous substances are emitted to fresh and marine waters via a number of pathways and can have detrimental effects on aquatic biota. Humans can be exposed to hazardous substances in water through the ingestion of contaminated drinking water and the consumption of contaminated freshwater fish and seafood. A wide range of legislation now exists in Europe to address the release of hazardous substances to the environment, including water. New challenges exist, however, including the issues of chemical mixtures and emerging pollutants.[Author vide copyright]
