Title: eEurope+ 2003
Title (other): Progress Report | 2001 - 2003 Final Progress Report
Abstract
The paper summarises the overall situation of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the new EU member states from a global perspective. It provides a set of indicators to benchmark the introduction of new technologies into education and everyday life. The data gathered by the eEurope+ final progress report shows that considerable progress has been made in many areas related to the information society in the recent years. All the new member states and candidate countries have made significant efforts towards the implementation of the knowledge-based society. Among several actions recommended for the future, the report highlights the need to stimulate the development of interactive, multimedia-rich and multilingual content as a driver for broadband deployment. The implementation of e-government services, the integration of ICT training into every pupils' education or the deployment of lifelong ICT training are other measures recommended. [Urheber s. Title: Data protection from a transatlantic perspective : the EU and US move towards an international data protection agreement
?
Abstract
Recent years have been marked by a growing demand of personal data for public security purposes. Access and protection of those data are climbing the transatlantic political agenda. They have raised tensions and fostered forms of cooperation. The possible conclusion of an international binding agreement on a common transatlantic framework on data protection would be a further and crucial step ahead. The scope of this study is to pave the way for launching a parliamentary debate on those issues. Therefore, it aims at providing a comparative analysis of the EU and US legislation concerning the protection of personal data collected for public security purposes. It also discusses some of the main challenges posed by new technologies as well as analyses the most relevant cases-studies of transatlantic data exchange. Finally, it takes into consideration the published outcomes of the work of the High Level Contact Group. [European Parliament]

Title: The European Union through the eyes of Asia: a comparative study of media perceptions
Title (other): Europe's challenges in a globalised world; Conference Brussels, 23-24 Nov. 2006
Abstract
The analytical approach taken here is innovative and original. While other studies have considered the EU's periphery, such as Turkey and the Ukraine, in terms of European perceptions, as well as within the EU itself through the Eurobarometre, there is an absence of studies so distant from the EU. The methodology of this study is multi-disciplinary in focus, involving a number of social science disciplines and is derived from the experience of the previous studies cited above. This project is scheduled to run for fifteen months (January 2006 - April 2007), and involves media analysis as well as public and elite opinion. Most importantly, the analysis embraces the local language in each region and is not restricted to the English language medium, working in materials in the original languages which are then translated for comparative purposes, into English. In this way we can access what is commonly understood and available in relation to the EU in individual countries.
