Title: Information and communication technologies in education and training (Update of 1996 edition)
Abstract
New technology and improved access to the internet have led to a proliferation of information and new opportunities in the field of education. This working paper addresses the enormous impact information and communication technology has had on education and training as well as the benefits, limitations and different components of the various types of e-learning. In particular, it highlights how e-learning is in the process of empowering the individual learner and reducing the teacher's traditional role as information gatekeeper. The paper also addresses the future of e-learning, looking at the needs and demands of prospective users as well as the access to new technology. [European Parliament]

Title: European competitiveness and business
Abstract
In The Economics of Order and Disorder (1992), Jacques Lesourne reflects on the influence of what he calls "exceptional personalities". According to his description, such personalities are characterised by a devotion to their own specific objectives, an outstanding ability to judge the resources and beliefs of the other players, a talent for gaining the cooperation of the people working for them, an imagination enabling them to discern innovative behaviour, and a creative capacity allowing them to devise complex decision-making rules. This paper explores a field in which these capacities are crucial, namely the challenges that European competitiveness poses to companies. [author's abstract]
