Abstract
This background paper has been drafted to coincide with the hearing of the European Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (November 21st 2007, Brussels) on Women and Violence at work in the European Union. The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions has a track record of research on workplace bullying, violence and discrimination going back to the 1990s. Title: Combating sexual orientation discrimination in employment: legislation in fifteen EU member states: United Kingdom
Title (other): Report of the European Group of Experts on combating sexual orientation discrimination: about the implementation up to
April 2004 of Directive 2000/78/EC establishing a general framework for equal treatment in employment and occupation
Abstract
The Human Rights Act 1998 incorporates into the UK law most of the rights in the European Convention on Human Rights and its Protocols , and authorizes UK courts to enforce these ?Convention rights.? None of the existing legislation expressly prohibits sexual orientation discrimintation in employment or occupation. Only the regulations implementing the Framework Directive do so. However, the UK?s implementation of the Framework Directive with regard to sexual orientation to date has been excellent.

Abstract
This study aims to provide an analysis of the situation of women living on EU islands focusing on the situation of women in fifteen island regions belonging to six member States (Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal and Finland) and on three specific areas: the access to employment, education and healthcare. The objective of the study is to identify whether the situation of women living on islands is more difficult than that of women living on the mainland or than that of men living on islands.... Title: Guidelines for Gender Equality Programmes in Science
Abstract
The European Union has been active in the field of women in science for 10 years now. Since the beginning, we have concentrated on collecting information on the situation of women in European science, and on funding measures that encourage and retain women in science and technology careers. Title: Opinion of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights on the Proposal for a regulation on jurisdiction, applicable
law and the recognition and enforcement of decisions regarding the property consequences of registered partnerships :
FRA Opinion 1/2012
Abstract
The FRA delivered an opinion on 31 May on the proposed EU law on the property consequences of registered international partnerships, following a request from European Parliament on 25 April 2012. The proposed regulation (COM(2011) 127 final) does not offer civil partners the same choice as married couples over which national law applies. The FRA's opinion concludes that the proposed law does not provide convincing reasons for denying registered partners a comparable choice as would be offered to married couples. This runs a serious risk of violating the principle of equal treatment under EU law. [Author vide copyright]
