Title: The new Lisbon strategy : an estimation of the economic impact of reaching five Lisbon targets |
---|
Abstract The Lisbon strategy could reinvigorate Europe's economy and boost employment. In 2000 the European leaders agreed to stimulate economic growth and employment and make Europe's economy the most competitive in the world. If Europe would really reach the goals they set, Europe's Gross Domestic Product could increase by 12% to 23% and employment by about 11%. This paper draws this conclusion after having analysed five of the most important Lisbon goals: the internal market for services, the reduction of administrative burdens, goals on improving human capital, the 3% target on research and development expenditures, and 70% target on the employment rate. Using CPB's general equilibrium model for the world economy we have simulated the consequences for Europe of reaching the Lisbon targets in these fields. Key words: Jobs creation and economic growth, Lisbon agenda, general equilibrium model [George M. M. Gelauff; Arjan M. Lejour] |

Title: Social capital and job creation in rural Europe - Summary |
---|
Abstract The profound changes experienced by rural areas in Europe over the past couple of decades have resulted in obvious disadvantages: loss of employment due to changes in the agricultural sector, migration of young people towards urban centres, leading to a demographic imbalance, and insufficient population and infrastructural density to support economic development and entrepreneurial activity. However, one resource that rural areas may be able to draw upon is their "social capital": the interaction of individuals participating and communicating in formal or informal networks in which higher levels of trust develop. It has been recognised that social capital can play a role in stimulating and fostering entrepreneurial activity, and hence facilitate job creation,in both the EU15 and the new Member States (NMS). Title: Work environment continues to improve |
---|
Abstract In 2006, Statistics Norway conducted the sixth Level of Living Survey: Working Conditions, which outlines the general situation of workers and workplaces in Norway and charts trends in working conditions. The survey results indicate that levels of exposure to physical risk factors are generally low, although the proportion of workers experiencing repetitive movements at work has increased. The findings also reveal that employees have high levels of job demands and job control, and good opportunities for professional development. [Author vide Copyright] |

---|

Title: ERM case studies: Employment impact of relocation of multinational companies across the EU |
---|
Abstract This report examines shifts in the pattern of production and employment between different countries and regions of Europe. Based on findings from a series of company case studies, it looks at the location of job creation and job destruction in multinational companies across the 25 EU Member States and Norway. A variety of factors, notably the ever-changing patterns of competition on world markets and technological advances, enter into a companys strategic thinking and actions when it comes to location decisions. This has inevitable consequences for employment, as companies expand production in some locations and seek to rationalise production and employment in others. This study aims to summarise and illustrate these processes to allow for a better understanding of multinational companies location decisions.[Eurofound] |

Title: Occupational Health Concerns : Stress-Related and Psychological Problems Associated with Work |
---|
Abstract The study presents recent trends on stress at work as well as an overview of EU and national measures to tackle this problem, especially in the context of the economic and financial crisis. The report also includes a number of case studies illustrating initiatives that have proven successful in improving workers mental well-being, in particular during restructuring. Given the growing concerns on the impact of the economic and financial crisis on workers mental health, one of the main recommendations put forward in the study is that the next Strategy, or any other relevant European framework on occupational health and safety, should include stress at work as a priority area. Title: Psychosoziale Risiken in Europa : Prävalenz und Präventionsstrategien ; Zusammenfassung |
---|
Title (other): Psychosocial risks in Europe : prevalence and strategies for prevention ; executive summary | Risques psychosociaux en Europe : prévalence et stratégies de prévention ; Synthèse |
Copyright] |
